— The Quartet

A world between compositions, improvisations and traditions.

The Quartet brings together musicians whose fluency runs deep in traditional, contemporary jazz, improvisations.
The Metin Yilmaz Quartet presents an original body of compositions and a few traditional pieces arranged for the quartet that draws on the rich musical traditions of Anatolia and Kurdish tradition while embracing the openness and improvisational spirit of contemporary jazz. At the centre of the ensemble is the evocative sound of the Bilûr/Kaval, whose quarter tone melodies intertwine with piano, double bass, and drums to create music that is both deeply atmospheric and rhythmically vibrant.

Through shifting grooves, intricate rhythmic variations, and dynamic ensemble interplay, the quartet moves fluidly between meditative passages and uplifting, high-energy moments. Their performances balance soulful expression with adventurous improvisation, creating a sound world that is immersive, modern, and grounded in timeless tradition.
